Cupcake Love — Foto Friday

My Canon 100mm macro lens came in the mail yesterday, which meant I had to try it out immediately! My birthday cupcakes made the perfect subject:

I absolutely love it! Can’t wait to use it at my newborn session this weekend.

Dog Life — Foto Friday

Buddy Comedy

I rented a wide angle lens (the Canon 20mm 2.8) to take pictures of our new house, and managed to sneak in a few dog shots while I had it.

This was taken in our old back yard. I put the camera on the ground and crossed my fingers that it’d focus!

Shot with a 20mm 2.8 on a Canon 5D. ISO = 200 Aperture = 2.8 SS = 1/400. Edited in Lightroom.

It’s Ours! — Foto Friday

91|365: It's Ours!

We closed on Wednesday! It’s ours!

A moving van arrives today from Ohio with stuff from my mom’s house—wedding gifts she’s had since my Ohio shower; furniture from my grandmother; a few other odd and ends. Tomorrow we move from our current house to the new one. I can’t wait!

Thanks for coming along for the ride. It was a great experience, and I would recommend building to anyone who’s in the market for a new house.

My Beautiful Girl — Foto Friday

77|365: Beautiful (Happy) Girl

I wish I could remember where I heard the phrase “heart dog,” because it’s such the perfect way to sum up the way I feel about Scout. Don’t misunderstand, I loved, and have loved, every dog I’ve ever had. Thinking about the day we have to say goodbye to Montego makes me me tear up at my desk. I love that dumb, grumpy dog.

But I’m not connected, not tied, to her the way that I am tied to Scout. Maybe it’s the way Scout came into my life—a smiling puppy on my doorstep, a gift, an unexpected treasure. Maybe it’s because she took me to the dog park every Saturday and that is where Aaron and I met. Maybe it’s because she’s just so darn JOYFUL. I don’t know.

But she makes my heart smile with her smile. Sometimes when she’s gets all settled into her dog bed at night, I make Aaron sit up and look at her. “Look at how cute she looks!” I say. (This usually happens if she’s doing something squee-tastic like crossing her paws or resting her chin on Eller’s back.) He humors me, but to him, she’s just a dog laying on a dog bed.

But to me she’s my heart, covered in black and white fur with sparkling brown eyes and a naughty streak as wide as the Mississippi.
