Midweek Confessions — Leap Day Edition

February 29, 2012 by

It seems like this is the only time I update anymore. I guess I just like to confess!

• Growing up in Texas there was no such thing as a snow day, except for that one time in 7th grade when there was an ice storm and we had to make up the day on a Saturday. So I always thought the idea of a snow day would be so amazing, except in real life grown-up-dom, it is not so nice. It is stressful. This girl, she likes to keep to a routine. At least it’s pretty.

• I took that photo this morning when we made the drive to Caribou. There is probably something in Proverbs about how to fool takes a chance and goes to Caribou on a snow day while the wise doesn’t. By the time we got back, the plow had plowed us out of the driveway. Whoops.

• Harry’s rash is definitely yeast. The pediatrician wrote us a prescription for something called “poop goop,” which is supposed to be an anti-fungal with a barrier cream. Except it’s not working. I’m putting straight Lotrimin on him now. I’m afraid we’re never going to get back into cloth, and the thought makes me want to cry.

• Leap Day is kind of annoying to me. It should just be March already!

• My sinuses hurt so much yesterday that I thought I had an infected tooth. And this is where I confess that I haven’t been to the dentist since I left Atlanta. Four years ago. Whoops x2.

• I love listening to Harry find his voice. I want to celebrate and tweet about every new word he says. (But I try to restrain, because no one likes That Mom.) It is incredible to me, though. Last night he pointed at one of the Eller pictures hanging above his dresser and said “Eh-woo.” I couldn’t believe it. We almost always refer to the dogs as “dog,” because that is a word he knows. But I guess we’ve said their names enough that he picked up “Eller.”

Do you have anything to confess? Let it out.

Oh Johanna! When I saw you post about finding a dentist I have been keeping a close eye on the responses because I too have not been to the dentist in years. It was before I got pregnant with Nora. Or was it the pregnancy before that. Eek. Let’s hold each other accountable to that one.

Also, we had to use poop goop with Nora and it didn’t work either. Frustrating. I hope that you can find your way back to cloth. We never did and it does make me sad too.

And lastly, I contemplated and contemplated about getting the girls in the car and traveling to Caribou.. I didn’t do it. Now. Wish I did. :)

I timed it exactly right, because the plow had come by on the opposite side, which meant the road was driveable, but it hadn’t come down our side, which meant I could get out of the driveway. Score!

Yes, make a dentist appointment! Text me when you do, and I’ll text you when I do.

Hearing them learn to talk is THE BEST.

I have been there with feeling like we will never get back to cloth. We have had three yeast infections and all three had me in despair. But this has been a successful week back in cloth so far! You will have a turning point soon, I am sure.

O girl. Harry toddling around in his striped body suit? GAH. I die a hundred deaths of adorable. I have not been to the dentist since 2005. Amen.
