We take spring pretty seriously in Minnesota. After all, it comes after a long, cold, dark winter, and it’s amazing to see green things after seeing nothing but white ground and bare trees since before Thanksgiving.
The other day a coworker said that she thinks this year is the “spring of the century.” And since she’s been living here for more than 30 years, I’ll take her word for it. I mean, 30 years is not a century, I realize, but it’s longer than my two.
This March was the first March since the late 1800s that saw no measurable snowfall. All March long we held our breath and crossed our fingers and thought, No way will this happen. But it did.
Minnesotans don’t waste the spring — they are out in shorts, on bikes, on Rollerblades, jogging as soon as the temp climbs above 50.
I’m happy to join them. (As long as I have a camera around my neck.)

I love how the baby leaves peek out of the branches, like the ones in your third photo!!
I like that too!
I am lovin’ this Spring. I hope it becomes a new Minnesota tradition
